Albert T. Butcher “AB”, 92, born on June 8th, 1927 son of Clyde E. & Janet (Ingersoll) Butcher, passed away on February 3, 2020.

 AB was preceded in death by his daughter Paula and his sons Randy Lee (Connie) and Dale Allen Butcher.

 He is survived by Marily K. Butcher, his loving wife of 52 years, his children: Marc J. & (Carole) Butcher, Cheryl E. Butcher & (Rabaa Yusif), Rex E. & (Darlene A.) Butcher, and 13 grandchildren: Deja (Brian); Khadijah, Majed, Latifah, Abdul-Gader, Hasaniyah, Salim Bagais, Mariam; Austin, Brendon; Jeremy, Kaitlyn, Ashley, and one great grandchild Kitiara.

 AB retired from NYS as Chief Safety Officer at JN Adam Developmental Center and Chief of Police for the Village of South Dayton. He was recognized for a lifetime of volunteering, becoming a member of the Pine Valley “Wall of Fame”. He was an honorary South Dayton volunteer firefighter and was a dedicated sign-in volunteer who registered tractors for the South Dayton Fireman’s Antique Tractor Shows. He was also a long-time supporter of both boys and girls Pine Valley sports, where he coached Pine Valley Pee Wee/Midget Football and South Dayton Babe Ruth Baseball, even encouraging his daughter Cheryl and others to play baseball long before it became the norm. He also was a former Grand Master of Villenova Odd Fellows.

 In his later years, he was an avid supporter of local restaurants and was known to have a sweet tooth with a special taste for peanut butter. He was a devoted husband and father, ready and willing to help anyone in need. He was a man of few words, but with great heart and dedication to whatever task was at hand. He was a humble leader. He is our greatest hero. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. Instead, there will be a celebration of his life February 29,2020 1PM at Zollingers South Dayton Hotel 203 Pine Street, South Dayton, NY 14138. The family asks that any donations in his memory be made to the South Dayton Fire Department, Hospice Cattaraugus County or a charity of your choice. The greatest donation of all is volunteering your time to make your community a better place.
