Vineta Rice Ockerhausen

Vineta Rice Ockerhausen, 92, entered eternal life, January 18, 2015, at Heritage Village Nursing Home Gerry, New York. She had resided at Berquist Assisted Living since May of 2013, but had previously been a 60 year resident of Conewango Valley.

She was born Sept.10, 1922, the only child of the late Henrietta Schmid Rice and Wilbert Silas Rice. Raised in Chicago, Illinois she was a graduate of Hirsch high School and the Paul Moser Business College.

Vineta was married for 53 years to the late George Ockerhausen who died July 4, 1997. She retired after 20 years as the secretary to numerous superintendents of the Pine Valley School District.

Mrs. ‘O’ is renowned for her devotion to family, love of her church, neighbors, cats and special friends, Pat Howard, Jean Sherman, Sara Bastion, Loren Kent, Carl Miller family and Teresa Sheldon.

She loved to look her best and was at all times “color coordinated” and aware of hair and makeup. Vineta was a member of Jamestown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church which provided her great comfort.

She is survived by three sons, Richard M. Ockerhausen (Linda) of Frewsburg, NY; George W. Ockerhausen (Carol) of Louisville, KY. and David A. Ockerhausen (Ethel) of Pittsfield, Mass. As well as the following grandchildren, Devin Ockerhausen, Brittanie Seibert (Paul), Allyson Mahaffey (Gabe), Jessie Ockerhausen; step grandchildren, Christine Sobocinski and Mark Thomas. Her only great-grandchild Kolten M. Ockerhausen was a source of great joy.

Although it is difficult to part with our loved one, the significant decline in our mother’s health and quality of life makes it easier to accept that it is now time for her to be absent from the body and present with the Lord where there is abundant joy with no suffering or sorrow.

Our mother’s life was a journey filled with challenges for which she found her faith to be sufficient and that same faith has seen her safely home.

The family wishes to thank Heritage Village, Hospice of Chautauqua County and Dr. Tomasz Woloszyn for their loving professional care.

Hills Funeral Chapel, South Dayton is entrusted with arrangements. Visitation will be held Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM, Funeral Services Friday at 10 AM. with burial in Cherry Creek Cemetery.
