Marcella J. (Strickland) Johnson

Marcella J. (Strickland) Johnson, 90, a retired registered nurse for Tri-County Memorial Hospital, where she worked for 16 years, died Sunday, January 21, 2018 in Homosassa FL. Before moving to Florida, Marcella resided in Otto and East Otto .

Prior to her passing, Marcella was a member of the St. Johns United Church of Christ. Marcella also was a member of the Let's Travel Club of Cattaraugus and an avid RV Camper. Marcella also worked for Dr. Anderson in Cattaraugus, N.Y.  In addition to her work and hobbies, Marcella also was a member of the Otto’s Women’s Aux with the Otto Fire Department, Otto Town Clerk for many years and a local 4-H Leader. Before Marcella obtained her nursing degree, she also co-owned a dairy farm in Otto.

Marcella is survived by cousin, David Prutsman of Troopsburg, NY, a cousin Betty, a nephew, Warren Dickinson, nieces Denise Ebert, Debbie Dickinson and Doreen Siminski and step children Phyllis and Dan. Marcella had many friends who she considered her family including Lori Hill from Florida who helped Marcella greatly later in her life.

Marcella was preceded in death by her father Floyd Bowen, her mother Vera Tubbs, her first husband Justus V. Strickland (1991), her second husband Cal Johnson (2010), a brother Herman Bowen (1986), and a sister Ann Marie Bowen (1944).

Marcella was born June 23, 1927 in East Otto, New York the daughter of Floyd and Vera (Tubbs) Bowen.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm at DiStasio Funeral Home 55 S. Main St. in Cattaraugus, NY. Visiting will commence at 1:00pm. Rev. Tim Klahn of The Immanuel Church in Otto will be officiating. There will be a luncheon following the service at the Otto Fire Hall.

Burial will be in the East Hill Cemetery in Otto, New York.

Worked with Marcella for many years at Tri County Hospital and Tri County Family Medicine. Very nice, caring person, will be missed by many.
