Lenora Alice Brooks

Lenora Alice (Nunweiler) Brooks, 96, of Cattaraugus, NY passed peacefully into glory on Monday, August 10, 2015.

Lenora graduated from Cattaraugus Central Schools where she was an active gymnast, and from Fredonia State University with ateaching degree in English. She taught at both Little Valley and Cattaraugus Schools, was a member of the Cattaraugus United Methodist Church and UMW, Cattaraugus Civic League and served on the College Council of SUNY at Fredonia. During her life, she traveled the world extensively to every continent except Antarctica. Her home at 39 Jefferson Street was affectionately known as the International House where she welcomed guests from countries she had visited, including many foreign exchange teachers and students from countries such as France, Panama and Ethiopia. She loved to play piano, work in her flower gardens, bake muffins for the neighborhood, make quilts for her children and grandchildren and golfed her last seven holes at the age of 95. She was an accomplished poet and composed music. Her greatest joy was having all her children with her at the same time.

She was the loving wife of Torrance Brooks; cherished mother of Terrald (JoAnne) Brooks, Teddar (Judy) Brooks, Lynn (Rick) LeFeber, Avion Brooks, Randy (Bob) Kiehle, Kameron Kimber Brooks and Sally Crocker; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband Torrance, her parents Fred and Lana Nunweiler and her sister Lillian Knopp.

Relatives and Friends are invited Saturday August 22nd, to a visitation  10:00 AM at Cattaraugus United Methodist Church 53 Washington Street, Cattaraugus, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM.

Memorials may be made to Cattaraugus United Methodist Church and Hospice of Cattaraugus County.

Thank you. She was a wonderful lady....and the best Mom ever!! She is where she wants to be. Last year was tough on her. No interest in doing much...just liked to ride around in the car. Her back hurt and her ankles hurt. Life just got too boring for her and she told us she wanted to leave... and so she did. It was a gradual transition and she left us peacefully. Avion and I were with her when she passed. We told her to go and to come get us when it was our time. She had seen her mother and a door that she knew she had to go through. Will always love her. Thank you for your post. She passed peacefully at home with Avion and I at her side.. It was an honor and privilege to assist her in her journey. She was an extraordinary person and we shall forever take her example as our guide. Peace be to you too.

Dear Brooks family,
Your Mom was a very special woman. She always made us feel welcome. She always commented on the music with that delightful smile ever present. You are in our prayers. May God grant you peace and rest as you celebrate her life.
I regret to share that I am attending the funeral of Ray Zinn tomorrow. I've preached out to the Whig Street Church for a few years. Ray's son, Wesley, will be officiating at the service. I have offered to step in and continue if he has any need for assistance.
Sincerely,
Mike Trenchard & family
