Ida Lucille Brown

Ida Lucille Brown, “Lucy” of Cattaraugus, NY entered into rest Sunday August 5, 2018 at the age of 92.

Lucy was born November 8, 1925 in Abilene, Kansas and was the daughter of Paul and Ora Lenhart. She married Fenton H. Brown on October 20, 1946 in Kansas and moved to Cattaraugus shortly after and lived there since. Lucy worked for many years at Tri-Country Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aid in labor and delivery while also working at Cattaraugus Central School as an office clerk. She was well known for her kind and giving heart which is why she received the Richard Murphy Citizen of the Year Award in 2006.

The two most important things in her life were faith and family. She was a member of the Cattaraugus United Methodist Church for over 70 years where she served on numerous committees and was the financial secretary for over 30 years. Lucy enjoyed square dancing, knitting, sewing and picking blueberries for others. Many people referred to her as “the blueberry lady”. Cooking food gave her pleasure, as she believed that a casserole, pie, or sweet rolls would make anyone feel better. But what Lucy loved most was spending time with her family, especially Christmas, Easter and birthday dinners.

Lucy was predeceased by her parents, all seven of her brothers and sisters and her son, Ricky Brown. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, two daughters, Teresa (Richard) Feuz, Michele (Peter) Illig, both of Cattaraugus, seven grandchildren, Ryann (Daniel) Taylor, Carissa (Mark) Davis, Janelle (Joseph) Zera, Stephen Feuz, Jacqueline Illig, Patrick (Hannah) Illig, Lindsey (Ryan) McNamee, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A family gathering will be held at DiStasio Funeral Home Inc, 55 S. Main St, Cattaraugus, Saturday, August 11 at 7pm. A celebration of life service will be held at the Cattaraugus United Methodist Church, 53 Washington Street, Cattaraugus, on Sunday, August 12 at 3:00pm. A light supper will be held after the service at the Cattaraugus Firemen’s Club.

In Lieu of flowers any donations can be made to Hospice of Cattaraugus County who were so helpful at the end.

Lucy brightened the life of everyone she met- always there with a positive thought and that beautiful smile! When my father-in-law died I didn't think anyone had time to spread the news, no facebook back then, but Lucy was at the door with a turkey casserole! May she now rest - prayers for her family!
