Barbara J Hendricks

CHERRY CREEK ä Barbara J. Hendricks, 88, a retired bank teller for Marine Midland Bank, where she worked for 15 years, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, Heritage Village Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Gerry, N.Y. 

She was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Cherry Creek, N.Y., the daughter of Clifford and Elinor (Weaver) Judd.

She was a farmer’s wife for many years and then owned Young Tax Service until 1988. She and her first husband Arthur ran the tax service together for 19 years. Barbara also worked at Skiffás Store in Cherry Creek, picked and tied grapes for several years and worked the Fredonia Experimental Station. She collected Pine Valley school taxes for several years.  She also catered dinners and wedding receptions. Barbara was a member of the Cherry Creek-Leon United Methodist Church, where she was treasurer for 25 years. She also sang in the church choir and chaired many church dinners. She was a Girl Scout leader, and enjoyed cooking and making pies and playing cards. Barb a was past member and president  of the Cherry Creek Mothers Club and past president of United Methodist Women, past president KumDubble Group from her church, and she bowled in Randolph for many years. She enjoyed many activities, but truly loved her family time the best.

She is survived by two daughters: Brenda (Bruce) Hendricks of Cherry Creek, N.Y., and Wendy (Donald) Howig of Jamestown, N.Y.; her son, Wayne (Susan) Young  of Jamestown, N.Y.; five grandsons:  Gregory (Rachel) Hendricks of Litchfield, Conn., Wesley (Nicole) Young of Jamestown, N.Y., Mark (Elizabeth) Hendricks of Amherst, N.Y., David (Danielle) Howig of Rochester, N.Y., and Matthew Young of Kenmore, N.Y.; two granddaughters:  Christina M. (Ryan) Sweda of Fishers, Ind., and Stephanie (Joshua) McCraw of Jamestown, N.Y.; 12 great-grandchildren; her sister, Elinor (Wayne) Gallup of Rehoboth, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Hendricks; her first husband, Arthur L. Young; her grandson, Todd Hendricks; and her stepfather, Fay McDaniels.

Visitation will be held at Hills Funeral Chapel 478 Route 83, South Dayton, N.Y., on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014,  from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Cherry Creek-Leon United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bruce Fish of Cherry Creek, will be officiating. Burial will be in the Cherry Creek Central Cemetery in Cherry Creek.
