"Butch" Laurence Ellis

Laurence “Butch” Ellis, 73, of Leon, NY entered into rest April 10, 2016

He worked as a dairy farmer, iron worker and was owner of Ellis Suburban Propane, Ellis Construction Company and Aim High Cabins. Butch was an active member of Leon Fire Company #1 for 56 years serving as a volunteer first responder Fire Fighter, Fire Police, President, Secretary and a long time Leon Fire District Commissioner. He served as Cattaraugus County Director of Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative for 35 years and was Vice President of the New York State Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Butch was active in the Buffalo Cursillo Movement and Kairos for 43 years. He worshipped at St. Mary’s Church in Cattaraugus and loved God, Family, Friends, Animals and America. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren, birdwatching, dancing, country western music, traveling in his RV, camping, playing cards, cooking, piloting a plane and helicopter, spending time on his tractor on the farm and raising and eating blueberries. Butch was always ready to volunteer and lend a helping hand to anyone!

Beloved husband of 45 years to CarolAnn (nee Sterbenz); loving father of Laurence “Lee” Ellis, Adrienne (Tom) Kelly and Christopher (Nicole) Ellis; grandfather of Alexander and Cassandra Kelly, Corey, Abigail, Brody and Logan Ellis also several other honorary grandchildren; brother of Elliott (MaryAnn) Ellis, Shirley (Ed) Kota, Gordon (Janice) Ellis, Theresa (Jack) Frost, Jerome (Cheryl) Ellis and Nancy (Ron) Rudney also survived by MANY nieces and nephews.

Son of the late Elliott and Catherine Ellis and brother of the late John and Douglas.

Relatives and friends may visit DiStasio-Hills Funeral Chapel Inc. 478 Route 83 at Balcom Corners, S.Dayton Thursday from 7-9PM, Friday 2-4PM and 7-9PM. with prayers to be offered Saturday at 12:30PM followed by A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated from St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church 26 Erie Ave. Gowanda at 1:30 PM.

Interment will follow at Treat Memorial Cemetery

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wings Flights of Hope, Leon Fire Company, Buffalo  Cursillo and Operation Injured Soldiers.

Just want to say how Happy Butch made us at all the Cursillo picnics and so forth. He was a kind gentlemen. I will always remember his care for my husband, Sebastian. I know they will meet in Heaven. My prayers are with you all.

Butch will be greatly missed. He was full of life and so much fun to be around. I will always remember him with a smile much like the one he always had on his face!
